ok,
mine is stuffed. the envelope wouldnt eject. when you press eject it makes a sound like something is trying to turn but its not able to. SO, i pulled the unit out, undid a couple of bolts here and there and noticed a cd in what i presume is the play location. i got that out, and still the same noise. the car is out of warranty so if its stuffed id have to buy a new 1 anyway. has anyone pulled thiers apart and successfully gotten it working again? i wanna get it working as im selling the car, maybe! any help would be sweet as. |

My point is Ford know there is a problem with these head units(stacker type) so I would go to ford or write to them and try to get them to replace it because of the problem. Goodluck? |

Like Ten suggested, give ford a try, if you don't then u'll never know. They might replace it, they might not. The worst they can say is they won't do it for free, then you will know. If they won't then give fixing it a try

ER3 sounds like 'error 3 ' maybe , dunno what that means though sorry . Have you maybe tried hooking the radio up manually to an external car battery for testing, test it with the cover off the headset , check to see if the cd's head/laser is jammed in the play position or something. If something is 'homed' in the wrong position, disconnect the power and manually move the head/laser back to the home position , then power it back up. Playing overburned cd's can sometimes jam the head/laser at the outer part of the head/laser rail. If the laser/head is all the way out - as if to the outer part of a cd - then return it back to the start of the rail - as if back at the very start of a cd ( cd's read from the inside of the disc to the outer edge.. ) .. ;) gl

theres no chance of getting a new one under warranty from Ford anymore, they are no longer made and out of stock.

Wouldn't even bother if you cant't fix it , you can pick up a decent mp3 headset for cheaper than the ford units , and they sound 10 times better and more functions. The 6 cd indash stacker is nice - no doubt about it - but once its knackered and if it cant be fixed, then it aint worth replacing with another one the same imo .

Ford should still have the exchange program whereby they exhange your broken one for a working one thats been repaired for like $200.
Otherwise go aftermarket, i wouldnt pay $400 for a second hand one out of another car, it could itself fast to.

So I gather I should keep the one in the cupboard . I pulled it out to put an MP3 unit in and it never missed a beat. Maybe they fixed em by the end of the series.

Mine got jammed twice in a year. The first time was under warranty. I gave it to Ford and had to wait a few weeks driving around with no stereo. Then Ford put it back in, or it was another one, and I got my CDs back a couple of weeks later.
The second time out of warranty I took it to an auto electrician and he fixed it for me. Can't remember how much it cost.

in my case the head unit needed to be replaced as a result of someone unsuccessfully trying to knock it off but damaging beyond repair in the process. the audio company doing the insurance company were told by ford that they are out of stock so they went direct to the supplier and i was given the 'last new stacker' available. this was about in may 2 years ago. the supplier does recondition these units as does the site sponsors by the looks. i guess ford would just do an exchange of a previously reconditioned system if you went in with your broken unit. |
