Default AU Auto slipping, anyone in the know??HELP

Hello all, my problem is that my Ford AU 1999 XR6 VCT (adaptive shift) 4speed auto sed. Auto transmission slips on take off from 1st gear most mornings these days, in the cold early morning in Brisbane. It only happends on the first couple of right hand corners I take after leaving home, within 1-2 minutes of leaving home. I stop to turn right and when I take off the motor will rev like its in neutral, I then quickly put it in neutral then back into drive and its ok.then maybe at the next corner down the road it will do it again. It has done it most mornings over the last 2 weeks. After it warms up it is fine. It sits at work all day and on the way home its fine. I can’t work it out. Is it because of the very cold mornings we have been having in Brisbane?, I don’t think so. The auto has done 130000 k’s, has been serviced around every 50000. I did do a service 3 months ago myself, replaced the filter and oil, refilled around 3.8l till it started to overflow out of the filler hole, the car was level, was there an air bubble in there?. The oil I took out was a little bit brownish and slight burnt smell but not too bad, sump magnet had some sludge fixed to it but not too much. Do you think it needs more oil?? Is it on its way out?? Any info on my slipping 4 speed auto will be welcomed as I think I will turn out one morning and get mown down by a truck cause I can’t get moving.

Thanks in advanced

Rod

sounds very similar to my most recent experiance.
-If its the same problem, first thing you'll need to do is check your trans fluid and top it up which will solve the problem for a week or 2,
-next thing you'll know, it'll be back to its old tricks and theres no reverse on a cold morning this time either till its warmer.
-this will be followed closeley by all gears slipping when cold,
-2 weeks later you'll have only 1st/2nd when its hot aswell,
-keep driving and eventualy you'll get to the point where your sittin on the side of the road waitin for the RAA to tow you to get a manual conversion coz your AUTO is knackered!

I sincereley hope this is not the case, but check for trans leaks, hopefuly its just a buggered seal and nothing more.
GOOD LUCK!

lol robbo yobbo , i killed an old borg warner like that years ago , no reverse or first gear at all for months , then died eventually alltoghether in the end . I would maybe recomend go get it propperlly serviced so they can adjust the bands in it too, sounds like it needs a major service or rebuild soon unfortunatelly probably , if left much longer the way it is.

I don't think the bands adjust.
The solenoids might be sticking or need replacing.
You might need to take it to the professionals if an oil change doesn't fix the problem.

i used to have that problem a while back. start the car in the morning, drive off ok, take off turning a corner, and the car just revs, then drops into gear. Check your trans oil. give it a top up. i still dont have troubles with mine a year on

Same here. Cold start and right hand corners, slipped out and back into gear due to auto trans fluid being a little low. Topped up and it stopped the problem since.

no adjustments on the outside of the box, the valve body has to removed and bands shimmed a job for a pro i think

As useless and the others have said, it's fluid. My old XR6 VCT auto sis the same thing, got it checked and fluid level was only down a bit - still took 0.5 litre, and problem never reappeared while I had the car. Autos love fluid, and the newer ones really HATE it when the fluid's not quite right (low or burnt).

That's why I got rid of my EA - traded it in for $500 in 2003!
Fluid was fine, I've been told by an ex ford mechanic (which in my experience means they know everything, or they know sweet f.a) that once the bands are adjusted the tranny's life is very limited
