Well Danielle, on a Ford forum your going to get fairly biased information.

Between a Focus or a Astra, go the Focus, as it has a better engine (2.0 Chain vs 1.8 belt). Although some would say the Astra has better looks, there everywhere. And the Focus is a more "fun" to drive.

I wouldn't go a Zetec, spending the extra cash for what you get isn't worth it.

The LX has the same features as the Zetec minus Alloys, skirts and 1cm (i think) lower suspension. Get a 17" mag wheel and tyre package (around $1400 for chrome), Lowered with Eibach spring (around $450) or King Springs (around $300) and your set. If you really want a kit check out http://www.european-parts.net/catalo...0af85de2c03fbc
and click exterior on the left.

And yeah. Don't spend your daddys money ;)

Go for a Fiesta Zetec, nicer car then the Focus and a fair bit cheaper!

Why do you want a small car? my wife picked up a Mirage (1.5L) and while that gets good milage it is still not as cheap to run as my falcon (gotta love gas). There are plenty of BA's going for around the same price as the Focus and quite a few of them are on gas. The only real problem with them is they are a much larger car, but you get more room for your mates, more power, and they are safer.

hey,
I would definatly go with the ford,
But if you dont have the cash for a newish model i would suggest getting something in the same sort of ford family without the price tag

I only turned 18 a couple of months ago, and for my run around i have a TX3( in my opinion they are not ugly like the 5door hatches and they are not somthing you will see every day.

Mine is a 85 KC TX3 and i fell in love with it the first time i saw it , and if you really wanted something special you could always get a Standard Turbo Version :P

anyways good luck with everything

Set out a budget and take it from there. Then you would be able to look around at different cars in your price range.

Or you could drive dad's turbo :

I would go the Focus. I test drove the Astra and found the following "problems"...

Rear legroom - what legroom? Yeah, exactly.
One touch indicators - You either love them or hate them
Handling - I gave it a fang and it felt alot looser than the Focus
Boot space - Not as usable as the Focus
Seating position - felt awkward for me. Seat wasnt as comfy as the Focus
Interior - Yeah its ok but alittle too grey for me

Finally.... Its a Vauxhall. Ewww.. lol

Focus, but if Dad's chipping in for the fuel, I can do you a great deal on a 5.0 ltr EF.

As a parent there is one priority when it comes to the vehicle for your child.... The safest damn car out there for the money. Daughter got herself the last of the 2004 (old shape) astra cdx sedan, 6 airbags, abs, t/c, eauropean safety, so all the safety aspects taken care of. leather, alloys, heated seats great fuel economy and goes ok for a four banger.

AS one of the people I've spoken to said when I told him what car my daughter decided on... glad you didn't get a getz or any of that hyundai crap, the amount of bodies I've had to cut out of them shows they don't handle collisions well..... the astra holds up well in that regard.

After being subjected to a trip in a friend's Astra (old shape) they seem rather out of proportion with the way the interior is designed, and the badge on it is all wrong as well.

Don't even consider an Echo either. Another friend has one. Not good.

Safety is a big factor, when i think about the safety side of things, yeah the newer ones do have air bags etc, but they also have all the pedestrian safety extras as well which i think basically says that they are not as strong as older cars in the event of an accident ....

Theres my 2 cents

yeah, steer clear of korea and cheap cars. personally i stick with the large cars mainly due to the safety factor. Always have. The performance factor is merely a bonus

For the record, barinas are simply a coffin, so dont do it!

Definately, as was mentioned above, plan a budget, and go from there.

How about a Fiesta? Apparently they are pretty good.

Or a second hand BA - they are going real cheap at the moment.
