I noticed some similarities between the spyshot handbrake in the VE and the concept instruments in the torana,
COULD THIS BE VE trim in disguise? Jem. Notice the buttons around the instruments? Jem. |

Yes they do look similar. It doesn't suprise me that they've copied different designs of concept's and other cars

i think they often use concept cars to guage people's reactions on certain ideas which they later have planned for other cars

Didnt pearly have some of the interior shots floating around on FFAu somewhere?
The dash in his pics looks like its an enlarged Honda Euro dash, has a feature trim running from the passenger side over to the drivers of woodgrain/metal/carbon fibre whatever. |

Haha a bit slow there, over at ultimatecarpage the similarities were picked up about one or two weeks ago, and there are at LEAST 6 or 7 things similar with the torona concept interior, trust me, these two cars have more in common than you think.

it was always going to be a safe bet that the torana concept had a lot to tell about the shape of VE.

This has probably been bought up before, but I am surprised they dont have a semi automatic box (tip tronic or whatever you want to call it), similair to Ford and Mitsubishi. Or do they have buttons on the steering wheel for that?

I really like the way they've incorporated the handbrake lever into the centre console so that its almost un-noticeable when in the off position.

Did anyone read in cars guide today that the base models may still come with the 4 speed auto, not the 5 speed that was ment to be coming...

Perhaps this 4 speed thing is just a throw off by Holden so everyone will be pleased with the new transmissions.
I find it possible that GMH would persever with that 4 speeder mainly due to the fact that the VZII wagons and Utes will still continue to use it. If that is the case, good news for Ford. At the moment though its all speculation.

Motoring journos critisisized the ugly steering wheel in the 380. Lets wait and see wether they will do the same thing for VE.
As for the 4 speed, I don't see that as a suprise for at least the Executive and maybe the Acclaim. Base models are always built to a price. Ford probably won't be putting 6 speed ZF's in all models for a long time. I think they would rather put a cheaper 5 speed auto in the XT and Futura. |

The most interesting thing o me is that in the drive.com.au shots, the rear doors have speaker built into them.

Doh! Never been in a VT so I didn't realise that. Can you confirm that base VT's etc don't have speaker in the parcel shelf then?

I remember my friends VT Berlina back in 1998 had speakers in the back doors and parcel shlef, wierdest thing I'd seen for a while.
BTW: went for a ride in a VT exec the other day, Holy Shat, what a rickerty old tin can those things are!! Compared to the BA they feel like a baked bean tin! No wonder they are so quick with an LS1 in them, they are so llight and flimsy! |
