Its great to dream but realistically most of these sheds are damp with dirt floors, causing corrosion in lots of places. Just look at the forward edge of the bonnet.

Looking at the car in the photo its basically a complete strip down and rebuild - a lot of time and money, after chasing the chooks and mice out!!

I tend to disagree.

Its actually My car that I have owned for over a decade.
I just liked the photo and remembered all of those stories about lost GT's in Farm sheds. (and yes fun police - I know my car is NOT A GT)
The car was on the road until 2002. The car was only built and sprayed in 1995.
The car actually has new (in terms of K's) adjustable suspension/springs on all four corners, noalathane bushes throughout the steering and suspension (less than 1000 k's), an XD 351 engine with about 70,000k's a Top Loader with about 40,000k's (Came out of Brian Nappers race replica XC Cobra), vented XC discs and to top that off I have all the chrome ware (in great nick) stored in the shed, as with the XF Ghia interior that goes in it.

A respray will take me a few days, and It will cost about $400.

I guess it shows you can judge a book by its cover.

If I drop dead I guess someone gets to live the dream.

I was about to say that it had a black motor and clearly wasn't an unmolested gem.

Cool. The most important thing in our hobby is enjoyment. Otherwise we wouldnt be working on our cars. Obviously you will get that, so I wish your project all the best.

I was just trying to say that generally one will most likely not find a pristine car in a barn, unless you're very lucky and the owner has stored it properly. But then a GT even better a Ph3, I wouldnt say no to even a really rough one... even though I've got enough hobby cars for the moment.

I like the "colour matched" windscreen wiper motor...
I dream more of finding this in a barn...

this is actually true, there's 3 XY GT's sitting in a shed in country NSW (no im not saying where) and my wife's cousin has approached the owner but he doesnt want to know about it at all.

to give you some idea he has a tractor that was 2 years old when the battery died, so what did he do? he left it under a tree and used his old tractor leaving the new one to rust in the weather.....the mentality of some people.......

Thats pretty much how my Xb coupe looked when I dragged it out of an old farm shed, just wish I had takes the camera the day I picked it up. The guy did have an XP coupe and XM 4 door in the shed aswell, there more than likely still sitting there.

Galaxy old mate, "ALL" tall stories ! there were only ever 4 Phase IIII GT's in the first place and they are all well accounted for! If I had a $ for every tosser I knew, that Knew someone or had an uncle with a GT of some sort in mint condition , sitting on blocks from the first day it was bought and run every week for a few minutes, I would be a wealthy man . But alas im still trying to get rich !

My mistake I meant XY GTHO III's not IIII, one to many on my behalf, like I said though I have no idea if it is true or not, it's just something I have heard along the way.

well i will tell you for a FACT that a 'family' friend has a track red Phase 3 with just 19000 miles on blocks started every few months last rego was 1974!

all factory and in mint condition, over the years since owning it from new he has been offered ALOT for it.

just last week the latest offer was $440K no ****!!

he don't need the money (he's very well off) and just laughs at the offers!

these cars do EXIST but i agree with you that friends of a friends cars are usually replica's

cheers,

roy

I know there is 2 GTHO III's in Bendigo, one is owned by an old bloke that run's a freight company, it's vermillion fire and is up on block's and the other is through a friend of mine, vermillion fire as well, but he hasn't owned it as long as the other, I will not say where they are either as both owner's do not wish to part with them.

I know of an old bloke with an unrestored XB GT sedan sitting out in the paddock next to the shed. The old bloke is my old man and the the GT is mine. He's building me a custom 4 car farm shed to store that and my other toys...

i remember going through an old shed on a farm we used to go to, and it had a real early model ford, model t style shape. had wooden spoke wheels. and it was just sitting there collecting dust in an unlocked shed, didnt even have doors on the shed. last time i went there i was 14 so 5 years ago and it wasnt there then.
