I have decided that the XR dash is a little boring so i'm going to put in the fairmont dash. I'm wandering what changes if any to the wiring would need to be made and how differnt would the set up be for the climate controls would i need a faimont heater/aircon?
Cheers Mark

I am about to undertake this in about a month or so. You could get in contact with useless. He may know. If he doesn't know he will soon find out.

T3man is the one to ask. He changed his T3 (XR based) TE50 dash for a TS50 (fairmont based) dash. It involves changing a bit more than just the dash - heater controls etc as well. I think he got the parts for about $1k, and fitting was probably another $1k.

For starters, if you want the Fairmont dash cluster aswell, you have to add the sensors into all the doors so the door ajar display works. Where they are and how they are setup I dont know, but they are there.
That in itself is a fair bit of work because it involves adding wires to every door, and also to the cluster connector. For the rest of it, you need the sensors for the climate control, there is one in the front airdam, there is one on top of the dash on the inside near the windscreen, all of which needs to be wired up. Then you need the MDC (Message Display Centre, which is the part with the clock and the 2 LCD screens), theyre about $900 new from Ford. Got to wire that in as well. Then of course there is the dash itself, easy enough to find and a straight swap, bolts all in. Behind that you will need the heater box with the motors and new piping for aircon etc, from what i gather it is a little different to your standard forte/XR aircon piping because the heater box setup is different. I would say you would also need the CD player fascia and setup from a Fairmont as well, headunit being optional though.

I have all the above parts except the door sensors. But I will use an XR cluster, so that eliminates tha problem.

When I tried to use an XR cluster in my Fairmont it deactivated the MDC. This should only be a problem if you have a series one though, series 2/3 shouldn't have this problem. Good luck with it, should look sweet! I'm planning (eventually) to get the woodgrain in my Fairmont coated to the same finish as the T's, costs about 200 bucks from modicoat. Cheers, Matt.
