Default Imported Car Performance Times

What sort of performance times do imported sports cars do ? I guess I'm probably focussing on the Jap stuff.

I've heard of FTO's and Skyline's being able to do reasonable times but there seems to be a lot of BS when imported cars are discussed.

Is anyone able to list some times up for some of the more commonly seen cars eg supra's, skylines, gti-r's.

I'm curious to see how these these stack up against some of our local performance cars.

I went to the test and tune on Good Friday and from what is running around @ Qld
the imports were flying in comparision to the local cars

A few examples
A Soarer was running mid 12's, the other was a pip over 13
A heap of Silvias were under 14.0 some into the 12's
A few 120SX (i think thats what they are??) were doing 12's a few were doing mid to high 13's
The slowest Skyline was doing low 14's, the fastest did 10 flat
Alot of little Civic looking things were in the 14's, one even doing a low 13, a couple of N/A ones were doing 15's

I guess it is easy to put on an I/C, whack up the boost a notch or two and really give the 1/4mile a good shake

yeah I've heard scary stories of GT Starlet Turbo's doing some really low times... stuff that puts other cars to shame.

But this is with cars that have been modded. I'm curious to see the off the floor times, pre modded.

Like you said, you can easily bump the boost and get decent results....

I think it has become the culture now to wack up the boost, throw on a big exhaust then goto the drags, not before you have done the performance work. IMO the term ricer stands for something different to what it did 2 years ago. The factory times Cheaman quoted would be the go then. I miss understood your query.
Just to add, I doubt there are many 'off the showroom floor' imports left in their factory configuration, as the Fast Fours and Rotary enthusiats (not the wannabe tossers) have really lifted the bar in the performance stakes.

The percentage of 'ricer' cars with kits, bling wheels all show no go was definately in the minority at Qld Raceway, i think there were maybe 2 or 3 out of 60 or 70 cars that went slower than they looked. The Hyndai and Laser brigade seem to stay well away from Willowbank atm.

I suppose as we agree, the potential of such imports is there,

There are a LOT of the above models getting around with GTR Skyline motors as well. Next time you think its a stock S13 Silvia with a zorst and bov your lining up watch out if its got the GTR donk in it it will tear a BAGT a new backside. I have 2 mates with them and for under 15k, bang for the buck isnt even the term for it :

I have been in a completely stock r33 GTST and I don't see how it would get to 100 in 6 seconds. It didn't have much torque and felt about as fast as a normal BA.

we got a r33 gtst and stock its not that quick!

its soo easy to change somthing and make the thing go a lot quicker, simply block a vacume hose from the turbo and get full boost!

its hard to compare, i am thinking of taking the skyline down to WSID to see what the stock skyline does for my self! knowing that it is stock as a rock.

Those figures might be quoted on Jap fuel, at 100RON if there's so much difference between quoted and actual...

With a few mods the 33GTST will whip any n/a V8's **** from here to kingdom come. I did a complete rebuild of a 33GTST 7 years ago the mods were a 3inch exhaust and dump pipe, GTR intercooler, BOV, turbo hi flowed, match ported manifolds and electronic boost controler... I never did a standing 1/4 but I use to hit the rev limiter alot in top gear, which in klms is 274kph..

I was always under the impression that the R32 GTR was quicker than the R33 (Same engine, but lighter)

Yes But the 33GTR had alot more torque. the fact that all the jap super cars came out with only 205kw was because of the jap regulations. and what nissan was suposerly doing was going uder the radar by selling the GTR with 205kw then at it'sfirst service they retune the cpu and wack up the kw's..
Don't hold me to the gosple on this, it's only what I have heard and I can not confirm if it is true or false. But the way those Godzilars go I would not be suprised if it was true.

Theres no doubt that the Japanese Import scene are partly the influence to high powered late model aussie sedans.

This where the XR6-T is a unique car, taking the tradional rugged, torquey and spacious sedan and combining it with Japanese style technology of turbocharging. Now that the 4.0L Falcon has met forced induction i have no doubt we'll see a Falcon taking it right up there with the Imports.

One of the High performance import video's did a comparo between the R34 GT-T (206kw) sedan against the XR6-T. While the XR6-T is heavier it handled better out of the box against the R34 and had more punch.

Now lets get a XR6-T with AWD hooked up to it and see what damage it does :

Compare this... take a R33 GTSt (Which you bought for 16 thou). Take a 3 thousand dollar XB (not coupe), repair any rust, fix paint and spend $10,000 on a kick-*** engine/driveline combo.

Spend the same amount of money, have one tough XB that beat the Skyline and sound like the world was coming down.

I know what i'd pick

And not suck fuel like a worked clevo.

Thats why turbo's are good. I can drive mine around town and if I dont boost it, it is like a normal EB falcon and fuel economy remains half decent.

I know a guy with a 180sx, stock except for exhuast system who ran a 14.1 at calder.

The place who did my turbo install told me that those gts-t's can take 270rwkw before needed any internal changes.
THey are awesome cars! They come with 4 spot brakes as standard, awesome suspension. My mate has the best traction for launching on the street. They look good etc etc. The only bad thing is very copper is looking to pull them over and inspect them.
No such problems with the turbo falcon

Yeah my mate used to have a 97 R33 running stock boost and it just beat my 5spd XR6 but once boosted its : to me. Also they feel so much smoother and nicer to drive than any aussie car not too mention the handling with a set of tein coilovers its amazing

Those times are overly optimistic!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Apart from the GTR Ive beaten all of those cars with my auto 300zx TT (stock). Like someone have stated, those times might have been using Jap fuel.

The only cars that have totally blown me out of the water have been v8's (newer LS1 and 2's mostly). One red SS stood out in my list of deaths, totally stock looking with the wife (or GF) on the passenger side. 0-80km (speed limit), had me by 1-1.5 car length, the GTS-T beside me was 2 or so lengths behind me.

A stock 300zxTT has 165-170rwkw with the auto being faster off the line.

Thats interesting... cause my XR6 VCT absolutely smoked a 300zx was turbo (don't know if twin) but off the line and to the end I had him all the way to the form 1 lane... Both were pumping hard.. Only mods on mine bigger intake and cat back exhaust.. Can't say about the 300 as it was some bloke at the lights.. Gave each other a wave and thumbs up after the drag though, so was all good...

I used to beat my mates GTSTR33 with my falcon... by a few cars to his speed limiter. THere pretty good for a factory car... We fitted big bore exhaust, wound the boost up to 14 pound... And well im not dumb enuf to race him now...

THey go hard for what they are
