i dont think he HATES Americans, i think he just likes bagging them out for fun, the whole British sense of humor thing, took me a while to work that out when i used to read the Top Gear mag, i thought the results were always predictable, but at least on video, the humor gets delivered better

The title line sums it up. IT is british humour. You get it, or you think its offensive. Yanks think similar of us.

I used to think Jeremy was a tool .. primarily 'cos he yelled at my wife when she was in Wales a couple of years ago (they were horse riding and came across them filming TopGear .. Jeremy yelled at them to go away!) .. but he is funny, in a very "English" way. The Yanks probably won't get it, just like they have a hard time understanding Australian humour too.
BTW: People who say they hate Americans probably haven't been to America. Americans in general are very nice, polite people .. in their own country. We just sterotype them from tourists we see. If the world bases it's opinions of Australians on Australian tourists in other countries, I think our reputation is doomed. |

He entertaining. He might be a ***** and a bastard. But at the end of the day, he is entertaining. Top gear is not just watch by you me and other car nuts. Its watched by mothers, grand mothers, children, etc. Its a geniunely entertaining show.
Look at the Australian car show. That is why Clarkson is so good. Top gear is nothing like the car show, despite them both sharing hot laps, studios with standing crowds etc. Theres no personality, no quick wips and hilarity. |

My sisters been there and they are rude and arrogant when your in need of something they name different. And no matter how many times you try to explain to them they wont help you. A simple thing like cordial.. You mix it with water and it makes a drink?? Sorry cant help you. Anything they wanted in shops and supermarkets they had to explain it really hard to the point they were getting real embarrassed about it. A Canadian guy years back thought i was Canadian cause i had a Quebec hockey top on, And he said i miss the hockey can't see it over here. I told him when he gets home call optus at the time and set up pay TV with sports channels for overseas they had hockey or just pop into some pubs and have a look sometimes you get lucky, The man almost kissed my feet:P.

[QUOTE=SlickHolden]Americans just don't get humour.
QUOTE] it's not just Americans, there are a lot of people that don't have humour (certain t-shirts in the Netherlands for example) Clarkson has the typical sacrcastic British humour that i love, which over time through political correctness will become a thing of the past. |

Have you seen the doco he did where he drove around Europe in his old e-Type (I think)....anyway he took the **** out of all the countries. One special was when he is sitting in a square in Germany somewhere and after bagging the Germans for not having a sense of humour he demonstrates by focussing the audio on all the people eating lunch in the square. All you could hear was low frequency chattering and he said "listen to that...not one person laughing". He went on to say that if he was in any other country, you would hear laughter and people generally having a good time. But not in robotland.

I must admit when he first drove the HSV coupe i was sitting there red faced thinking who does he think he is, Car aside i was really ****ed at the jokes he was dishing up against us, To one got me off side at that some remark about drugs in the car i thought WTF has that got to do with cars?. But he's not that bad anymore but still funny as long as it's not directed at us.

Actually i think JC's sense of humour is very UNbritish (being the only non-UK born member of my family i had the joy of spending much time around british humour growing up). His quick wit and sharp toungue lacks the subtlty that one usually finds in british and australian style comedy.
But yet... still far too subtle for an american audience to appreicate. Probably explains why its so well liked here in Australia. A sound balance between the obviousness of American humour with the consideration and dry delivery we all love the english for. Anyone read any of his books? Ive read a chapter here or there - he really is a fantastic writer. Lol, the amount of superflous adjectives is just ridiculous, but all adds to his style. Definately worth a read... would make a kick a** father's day present if the old boy's a bit of a revhead!

I like watching JC. He's probably the best thing going round on TV at the moment, which doesn't say much for everyone else...

Top Gear is a great show, and Clarkson is a great presenter for it. He clearly has a sense of humour and this is what makes the show so entertaining. He isn't afraid to speak his mind. If he thinks a car is crap, he will say that the car is crap. While other car shows will try to sugarcoat the situation and try to say the good bits and pieces of the car, Clarkson would tell the world that the car should be destroyed in some way. It's great!

I really enjoy watching Jeremy Clarkson, his humour is entertaining and always makes me laugh. Sure he always seems to favour the british made cars but he isnt afraid to tell it how it is. I love watching Top Gear and so does my gf its one of the few shows that both of us can watch togather happily.

I think Clarkson is a love or hate figure. I for one, love him, from Top Gear and reading his columns and books. He's a fantastic writer, and all his columns are hilarious and witty.
For those interested read his car reviews and columns at: http://www.driving.timesonline.co.uk...,12529,00.html I reccommend his books too. Drive XR7, its not just Americans he lays into....he lays into everyone including the British. I think a lot of Americans need to lighten up and learn how to laugh at themselves rather than carrying on with the "we are so superior, how dare you laugh at us" mentality. |

I didn't really come out of that article thinking "Clarkson hates Americans", it was simply Clarkson taking his observations and hugely exaggerating them in order to entertain, as is his style of journalism.
He was a writer before he was a TV star.
