No mention of that problem here before AFAIK, however someone else may share your experience.

VDO can set it back to where it was for $100-200 and I doubt it would do it again, unless you were unfortunate enough to whack another pole!

Hope you get it sorted to your satisfaction.

Sounds like the main chip in the dash module has crapped itself.

I Don't believe it!

The odometer is digital it a memory chip in the dash cluster that counts the frequency output of the speedo transducer.

How is hitting a pole going to change it?

Just go to a wrecker and buy a dash cluster with a lower reading if thats what you want.

What a shame. I recently sold my AU with 175000 on the clock.

If I'd have known that people would go for stories like this..........

"Yeah mate, it's actually only done 47000, but some fool put a 9V battery in the glovebox....."

In NSW you do have the small problem of your odo reading being recorded on you inspection certifcate annually but that may not worry you.

Either way $200 to VDO or about $100 to a wrecker $200 for an XR6 cluster and you can change the odo to whatever you want.

Thats why you should always buy a SH car on service history. No log book no history and you have no idea what you're getting.

I must remember this when I go to sell my car.

Naaaaa, it hasn't really done 175,000km, I backed into a pole and it jumped 100,000km.

Hey, aufairy, you wouldn't be interested in buying a bridge would you? Kind of looks like a big coathanger, but most people reckon its pretty cool.

10 grand cash, and its yours. You'll get that back from the toll collections in an hour or so. But I need the 10 grand up front, in cash.

Or are you the one taking the p**s?

Public forum mate and the consensus was the odometer won't change in any kind of accident as its a digital speedo and the LCD odometer reading is taking from the cluster chip which VDO could reprogram.

Why would you lie about it? I don't know and who cares anyway as it's actually your problem isn't it? I am not interested in calling you a liar just correcting the misinformation about AU digital speedo clusters changing the odometer reading in an accident.

Never heared of anything like that before, to be honest i didnt think it could happen.

How many km's were on it before the pole incident? Best bet is go to a wrecker and find one with similar kms on it.

If you purchased it this way, how do you know it jumped 100,000?
Did the seller tell you that?
A lot of people are dodgy these days, and are willing to turn back kilometeres in order to get a better price... if thats what you want to do, fair enough, I wont tell anyone... But Im a panel beater, and Ive seen a AU XR8 come into work hit hard anough to push the motor back against the firewall. Didnt do anything to the odometre.

from my experience with electronics , I smell bullsh!t ...lol .

I've never heard of ANY crystal lcd display jumping numbers ! - digits/parts of the numbers can burn out , yes , but for it to change to another totally different number ! ....hmmmmmm , maybe possible , but you'de have a hard time convincing even the best electronic wizzes that something like that is possible .

Imo whoever sold it to you spun you the big one ..hehehe .gl

yep i have seen this, i just bought an intrument cluster from a wreckers, plugged it in and says that it has done 830,560 Km. I don't think this is right. Does anyone know how to take this chip out that stores the data and any diagrams. I have had to switch main boards around as the old one had shorted and blew up one of my bulbs which took out all the top row of illumination lights on the cluster.

Here you say you want it put back to the original reading and ask the chances of it happening again...

why don't you think that is the right km? taxis easily do millions of km, so why is 800,000 so hard to believe?

funny thing is, this is the last thing the king of dodge ever wrote on this board and it was about the Typhoon wagon that FTG built:

"nice wagon feel sorry for the person that buys it.. down the track try to say maybe trade it in car yard says thats on the Written Off Vehicle Register ... private people phone vic roads make sure money isnt owing on it nah no money but car is classed as a write off"

not bad considering he was trying to knock 100000km off his ODO
