"The crucial difference between the two..." is the ford is a FORD and the holden is just another holden...

Looks like a crock to me...

Nah, those Drive videos are really 'colour' pieces, not a serious comparison. Seriously, how much information do you think they can convey in a 1min video?

The only things they mentioned were the new SS-V interior being better than the XR8 interior, which may be fair enough as the XR8 interior hasn't been upgraded in the last 4 years. Likewise the XR8 motor is basically the same as it was in 2002, while the dark side have the torquey Gen IV now.

They didn't get to the bit about the 50:50 weight distribution which is probably the only part of the SS-V that is a worthwhile advance compared to the XR8.

Still, you'd reckon the bloke driving the XR8 could have made use of the standard 'steering wheel' device to avoid the rock....

weird how the transmission fluid was in one spot ... not a trail of fluid either.
The new Commodore on the road looks taller and narrower than the XR8 as well ... looked more of a 4WD than anything else.

Too right about the footage, was a GHIA. Re-enactment no doubt.

These people call themselves car journalists!!! I don't think that boffin in the SSV had a bloody clue what he was talking about. Where did they find this bloke, of some lame **** travel show?

This was not a comparision, merely a heavily bias rant by some moron.........

Make sure you send feedback to these jokers, link is under video screen, I did!!

winner by default, as the XR8 driver can't avoid a rock? what a load. Do the XR8s have a plastic auto transmission sump as they say? I don't think I have ever seen one.

The best thing that guy can do for the world is die.

Wasn't even the XR8 that "supposedly" had a hole torn through the trans pan ... was a Fairmont GHIA ... totally different vehicle ... then they show the XR8 with the bonnet up ... no oil trail on the road either.

Just a load of bull really ... shame there wasn't a section on the page to leave comments. Oh well.

Meh ... I had to send some feedback to the site ... it was annoying me enough to.

Also notice that no sooner had the Ghia pulled up, with the SSVomit on its tail, that the driver was out the car, bonnet up and back in the seat of the XR8. I don't mind losing, but gotta make it a level playing feild. Looks like holden sponsored the whole comparasin.

Feedback sent to those idiots

Never have I seen so much wrong in a few minutes of video since I stopped watching the likes of Today Tonight and A Current Affair. I've now lost ALL respect I've had for your paper and the Drive show (not that there was much there for Drive in the first place).

- The "XR8" pulling off the road in the video is obviously not an XR, but a Fairmont - easily distinguishable by the boot garnish and relocated reverse lights.
- Surely the driver of the "XR8" would've noticed a rock of sufficient size to cause that damage, and avoided it.

Give Holden their money back, publish a retraction, fire the bogan presenter, and run a proper comparision with some real automotive reporters.

"Info on the Drive comparison test between XR8 and SSV.
I cant believe such a miss informed piece of "Journalism" has slipped through all facets of management, to be shown with the name of your company supporting it. Shame on you. You have lost me as a supporter.
By the way, did any of the editors pick up that the "XR8" that had pulled off, was a Fairmont when it was pulling off? Worst special effects since the original "Gone in 60 seconds".

No longer a supporter of The Age
Mr. Ford"

Nobody here is bagging out the fact that the holden won the comparo, its how it won it and the obviously dodgy journalism.
