Default Suspension

Just got my ultra low suspension priced up. I got quoted $840 for Ultra lows, shortened struts and shocks, fitment and a wheel alignment. Anyone see any prblems with the price? Seems ok too me. Camber - caster kit will be an extra 200 if I need it. If you guys reckon thats a good price, I might be getting it done next week. WOO HOO!! :

If getting Ultra Lows ... definitely get a camber/caster kit ... but that looks like a decent price especially if you are getting the shortened struts/shocks included in that price.

Just rang my insurance company. They said that they wouldnt be able to insure me as I already have 1 modification, a cat back exhaust. Last time I checked, cars need exhausts. So now I dont know what to do. I got a qoute off Just car, which is $500 a year more than what I am currently on, and my premiums go up. No other place wants to insure me, so now I dont know if its worthwhile doing. Anyone got ideas?

True.

They've covered my exhaust and lowering as mods. They classed my stereo as an accessory.

Well, Im now insured through NRMA (thanks OED666) for about $100 more a year than I was through AAmi, except I can pay by the month, which is better for me anyway. Anyone know the stock height of the lowest AU? I think its the T3, but I need figures, so I dont go more than 30 mm below it. Cheers guys.

RACQ let me lower mine 40mm... i asked them what standard ride height was and they didn't know... so i said "ok then.. 40mm it is"

I have recently done some mods, hi flow cat, 2 1/2" zorst, lowered a further 25mm from standard for the XR6 (I think XR6's are lower than standard by 25mm but I'm sure I will be corrected if I'm wrong) and plonked on new mags and rubber 17" and I am with RACQ and it has not affected by premiums at all. For your info I am 39 so maybe that made a difference

NRMA is not as strict as it used to be ... they used to go over the car with a tape mesaure to make sure everything was within spec several years ago ... now they are "meh ... whatever".

Pretty sure the NRMA wont let you go lower than 2 and a half inches lower than standard from the guard lip to the top of the tyre..

I wrote an article on the insurance traps of lowering on www.aufalcon.com a fair while back. I think its got all the info you need: http://www.aufalcon.com/Articles/lowering.htm

A very informative article Casper.

So broadly, given that superlows generally lower the road height by 45-60mm, most guys using these springs are technically uninsured.

If anybody can publish the ride heights for AUs other than XRs this might get very, very interesting.

The insurance companies discriminate against age "big time". I spoke to Just Car Insurance & I can virtually bolt on a supercharger & run methanol & no problems because I am over 35. I had trouble getting mild cars insured when I was younger. NOT ON!

Make sure you are honest with the insurance companies Josh otherwise they will try come back at you if you have an accident.

Was just checking out some measurements from underneath my car and it seems as though the lowest point is the rear flange of the cat where they bolted up the cat back. It sit only 145mm off the ground. Seeing as though the SSL's lower the car by 63mm, this will be too low. How low does SL take the car? Looks as though I wont be going SSL anymore as I want it all to be within legal requirements.

You guys know what a yellow paint splash on springs mean? It's a 99 Fairmount Ghia.
