Default Front disc dust shields yes or no?

G'day all, I am redoing my front brakes after having warped discs reground and I am interested in whether others have removed the dust shields and found any benefits from doing so.
cheers
Bill.

removed dust shields on my sedan when i put new slotted rotors and pads all round, doubt if there is any 'performance' advantage to be had, but you can see the disc now, BUT ........ and its a big one, brake dust like a mofo !!!! Real bad !!! I can see why they are there in the 1st place

I took mine off because I heard that they block air getting to the rotors, therefore heating the rotors resulting in warping of the rotors. Plus they look shite.

I don't have a problem with brake dust, but be prepared to paint your rusty disc hubs. They should have called them Rust Covers.

If there are any young aspiring "Zena Warrior Princess's (tm)" out there who need some metal frisbee's, I have 4 in my garage you can have.

Yeah, my Ferodo's dust up really badly. Constantly cleaning it up.
Still, its better then the "no dust, no stop" Bendixs :

Took mine off. Looks better, but alas there is more dust.

Perhaps having them off allows more airflow, who knows really? LOL!

Cheers,

A few quick q's...

Who makes them? Are they rated for steel discs? Won't they chew through the discs quickly? Do you have them on your car?

I find it the other way... Ferrodo's have less dust. Bendix's have more. I am running the ultimates though.

I took the dust covers off ... which reminds me ... I need to give 2 to Adrian (AU2Falcons) for his trailer ... and the other 2 to Greenrob for the club trailer ... hee hee.

I have Territory wheels on the ute ... that work just like dust covers ... it covers the same amount of area.
