Hey guys..
do quite a bit of "spirited driving" in my car.. but today i filled it up and the DTE read 260.. I only drive the thing to and from work pretty much and work is like 3km away. Is it because of my driving style or could there be something wrong? : Glenn |

Sometimes it doesn't get a good reading from sender ... could be a dirty contact ... it runs of resistance to get the right level.
Sender might be on the way out. But I have found ... don't go off your DTE ... it tells lies most of the time. And if you have a sender go screwy and rely on your DTE ... you could end up being stranded (like what happened to me initially. Did the fuel needle go to the top of the guage when filled up????

That sounds extreme. Even with some spirited driving I would expect it should stay above 350 at least.

Damn ... you guys get that low.
So far I have done 200km and about 450km DTE ... I haven't even dropped to 2/3 yet. Mind you I do a bit of country/highway driving to get to work ... but then it's stop/start on the M2 for 30min or more.

I think the 3km away from work factor, would hurt a fair bit. Ride your bike you fat ****.
But there is something going wrong there. You should be getting over 400 minimum.

I always get 450 - 470 per tank around town, around 650 if purely highway. I like to push the pedal a bit but nothing like what you must doing, Glenn. Or there's something wrong with your automobile?
What does the instant L/100 km say? Mine hovers around 6 - 8 when on cruise.

If you average about 25litres per 100 km then that would be about right

That sounds a bit extreme Glenn. I get roughly 260 on DTE when I half fill.
I know you like your spirited driving... Maybe just lessen the spirited part of your style a little bit???

Yeah thats what i was thinking. Im pretty sure the car uses alot of fuel if the engine hasnt warmed up yet. So since your car probably doesnt have a chance to warm up the DTE stays low because you use alot of fuel all the time
I think that makes sence

well if it doesn't warm up properly, it's running rich all the time, which apparently isn't real great for cat converters either...that's what i've heard anyway

^^lol, the bit that i've heard is that running rich isn't that great for cat convertors, i think the dte going up is sitting on more of a constant speed, rather than constant stop - start driving, mind you the longer i sit on a constant speed the faster mine goes up lol

*puts flame suit on.. asks an idiot question*
My cat convertor doesn't have a heatshield.. would that make any difference with consumption? |

lmao...umm no, that's just to stop the floor from heating up, unless the dickheads that put the cat in, like mine, put it upside down so it looks like a bash plate, oh and also to help the cat warm up quicker/hold it's optimum temp longer
