you could go the cheap way and just get one from the wreckers for $60-$80
and probably another $50-$60 for labour if you can't fit it on yourself |

I asked an auto electrician about a year ago when i was having a red light issue in the dash (dicky terminal) and he said an alternator fitted for an AU was upward of $400
I was estatic to find out it was a $9 terminal..

Also you should be aware that the bcm (body control module) controls the charge rate for those alternators!!!! I have come across 2 now that have had problems with the bcm when the alternator has failed. If the alternator drops the armature or something it tends to blow the bcm. Something like that anyway cause we put a new alternator in these cars and there was no charge still after finding that the bcm wasnt responding we replaced the bcm (and married it to the pcm) and we had charge happening.

Ouch!,
I had mine done a couple of weeks ago after the power steering hose at the pump let go. Reco cost $225 but just make sure that the power steering fluid isnt leaking down into it. I let mine go for a couple of days thinking no harm with only a drip from power steering hose but it leaks straight on to the alternator and eats away at the alternator windings. You can avoid big bucks if you attack the power steering hose straight away. Hose from Repco $75. From Ford genuine 198.95. |
