Hey guys, as the title says..
a mate of my brothers just keeps braggin on about his auto straight 6 VL Turbo (your everyday vl turbo basically) whenever i see him he tells me how he dyno tuned it and that apparently (havn't seen proof, only talk) it pulls something like 12.9 seconds on slicks. Now I really didn't care much of what he said until he told me that he 'could' take my XR out. Considering that I'm only 20 I know a fair bit of what goes on under the hood and I'm thinking that I probably would take his vl turbo out no worries. But then again I don't want to try and prove to him something that might not be true. I want to prove him wrong with some facts not a race... yet. The guy is p plater and I know for a fact that half of what comes out of his mouth is all talk. Anyway what I want to ask is would an everyday VL Turbo take out my 260 XR8 (auto) or ANY XR for that matter. If you think what I'm saying sounds like a joke, then can you please write me some hard facts proving the capabilities of an 'everyday' vl isn't enough to beat an XR8 thanks guys.

i doubt the VL would have any chance.
like a V8, the turbo needs time to get the revs up. |

Stock the VL turbos aren't all that quick but there is plenty around that have had a pile of work done & are very fast.

If by "everyday" you mean basically stock then it will lose. A stock VLT runs mid 15's and isnt all that fantastic 0-100.
Of course the amount of "stock" VLT's left can probably be counted on my left hand. Does it have an intercooler in the front? Have you been in it? What condition is it in? Does its numberplate have "ulah" anywhere in it? :

If its an everyday VLT it probably has a cooler, exhaust and more boost and would be quite capable of high 12's with the right transmission.
Which AU XR8 got 260kw?

"ulah" LOL
Yeap his got the intercooler and it's in a fair condition, but it also has the wierdest intercooler pipings I've ever seen. It looks like a pipe dangling off under the carriage. Keep in mind his an 18 year old p plater and has only had the car for a few months now. He brought it stock and did whatever he did himself. It's a berlina by the way

Ahh nice.
Well if its got a cooler, exhaust and more boost it might be a close race. Of course when I was 18 my stock ED was the fastest thing around as well :P Just race him and see for sure. If he wins you still have the nicer car so WGAF.

I would love to race him because overall I'm confident I'll win. Not sure about the exhaust. Only thing that's worth mentioning is the turbo and the intercooler and that big head of his :P

Define everyday VL. These days most 'everyday' VLs would be capable of at least 13s.

for a car that ran 15.5 odd secs down the qrtr factory, it would need a fair amout of tunning an bits an peices to get in the 13s, which is what id assume you would be sneaking up on with 260 in an au8. Its not cheap to KEEP a 20yr old car going fast...hose him

Be careful about these "stock" VL's they ran strong nissan RB30 3litre motors. I have seen a few that are quite quick with just cooler boost and exhaust. It is not very hard to get these going quick, turbo's are getting cheap these days so you never know. I saw a stock looking r31 skyline which used the same turbo motor (i think) which blew the doors off a vy clubbie.
take him to the strip and see how close his 12.9 really is.

if its altered from factory i think he will wipe the floor with you, my brothers old supra with a $5 adjustable valve ,upped the boost heaps, not disrespecting your baby but turbos are so easey to get extra horsepower, the older ones anyway
