Just wondering, the Falcon's good for a few more years, the second car (Hilux 2wd diesel dual cab) is a bit worn (maybe a grand to spend on a fuel injector pump) and may need replacing. Talking to a bloke I know, he has a Sierra Turbo stashed in a shed.
The short version of his story is that his wife went for divorce, so he hid his assets, told her he sold them, so he could knock down how much it was he had to repay her. I haven't seen the car, but knowing his mechanical fussiness, I think it'd be ok. I don't even know the year of the car, I'm just assuming it's mid to late '80's. This car would have been stored for at least 6 years, assuming it is from '86 to '89, would it be worth investigating, and for what price? I appreciate parts for a Sierra might be hard to come by, but I get a bit excited when I hear of something a bit different! I don't know much about this car, yet... it's like pulling teeth to get info from this guy! Any ROUGH ideas? What might it be worth? (give or take a grand or so) Last edited by Captain Stubing; 13-04-2005 at 10:33 PM. |

it depends on which sierra it is. if it is a cosworth turbo, then $20k minimum, depending. if it is an RS500, closer to $35k or more. if it is the 2.3litre merkur, then about $6k. they can be very difficult to get parts for, mainly because you have to deal with the english, who are a lazy bunch (no offence meant to any english folk on here, but try dealing with the Uk and you will know what i mean).
in general, look out for rust in the usual spots, especially if the car has been imported from the UK and the usual mechanical checks. a nice car to drive and they go well. |

Being its a import will also mean hard to find and if you do expensive insurance. Just cars insurance do imports, not many places do.

Any Sierra RS is going to be worth big money, if in good condition. Also the more original the higher the cost, as with the miles, lower miles higher value.
It would be unlikely to be an RS 500, for obvious reasons (only 500 made) but they are the pick of the crop. |

It'd be worth while following up on. Any ideas how he stored it? Was the motor turned over occasionally?

If that's the price they're fetching, I think I'm out! I'll have to see what I can find out when I see him. I don't know how he's stored it, whether it's been turned over or not. I think I'll give the Hilux a birthday present, instead... injector pump and rings/bearings. :( |

Saw a nice Sapphire the other day ... burgundy ... immaculate ... and hell ... it took off so damn quick ... there's a few places in Sydney that deal in Cosworth modifications ... and very successfully as well ... have heard a few of them pumping out more than 450hp at the rear wheels.
Drool at will RS500 - I want one All these were the precursor to the Escort RS Cosworth that came out a few years later.
