Default And you thought Ford Spare Parts were bad...

My Grandpa got a little to close to something and broke his RHS mirror on his 1996 Chrylser Neon (yeah yeah its not the greatest car, does the job).

Anyway, today he told me that Chrylser spare parts quoted him $1200! Yeap thats right, $1200 for a new one; I dont even know if that was fitted.

Naturally he has looked around at wreckers, but being a pretty unpopular car its hard to find parts apparently, so I said Id see what I could find.

He did find one, but they qouted him $500, which IMO is still crazy!

Oh and its just a standard black one, not even colour coded, but it is electric.

So does anyone know where I could find one?

Perhaps US ebay? I mean seriously, surely I could find one is the US and have it shipped for not that much, they would be as common as mud over there.

Or does anyone know of any Chrylser specialists in Vic?

Thanks!

Sounds like they have the same spare parts source as Volvo trucks. One headlight unit is about $3k. Although these do have all the front lights in the one unit (6 I think)

Is it just the glass or the whole mirror housing itself thats broken? If it's just the glass you can always get it custom cut and fitted.

You can buy superglue for $1.99 a tube - I'd be trying that first at those silly prices.

Not that I know of.They supply a lot of the wreckers with aftermarket (read taiwanese) parts.Usually very good value compared to genuine, quality can vary.

Also for the ebay experts, I just logged in to the US ebay with my Oz details and sent a message to the sellers.

When they reply, do I have to be on the US site, or will that come through to the Oz one?

Yeah Neon mirrors - Every single one in Aus is electric and expensive.

Unfortunatley the same goes for most Chrysler parts - they make German prestige parts look cheap!

Try this on

Front pads for a Voyager $225
Front Discs (soft discs too) $250+

So a front brake reline is $500+ in parts and these things are nothing special in the US

Over priced, over marketed but bold stand out designs (that some other manufacturers should take note off...hint hint)

Heres a link for some Neons for sale, have a look at the mirrors.

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars...Time|1&trecs=7

They look different to these ones:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MIRRO...QQcmdZViewItem

The Oz versions seem more rounded.....unless its just me.

At $1200 unpainted and unfitted, because he had an accident another option may be to claim it on insurance? You would rather pay $400 excess and get the whole lot done.

Shipping from the U.S would probably be around U.S $50 using Express airmail.

How about a starter motor for an EL XR8 from Fords spare parts. $2000. And that was with employee discount. I don't think i've ever laughed so hard.

it seems mirrors damaged, now might be the time to lend his car and side swipe a barrier or a fence and claim a dog ran out in front of you or some P plater cut you off.And hope they ride the headache off then buy him a real car bud get an AU and all your short term and long term problems will be solved.

Have you taken into consideration that a mirror from the states is designed for LHD and may sit at an angle where it may not be useable. Have a look at a Falcon for example, the L/H mirror is angled more towards the door than the R/H, so will there be enough adjustment to make it useable.

I second that.
The US mirror, and EU except for GB, WILL NOT WORK! The internal brackets angle the glass the so it is useless for RHD. Been caught out a couple of times, VW twice, Rover and Mercedes.
