Default The xr8 from crash in brisbane

Was just looking through carsales and came across the xr8 that was posted a while back that hit a tree in brisbane... I did a search but could not find the original thread.....

Is it even worth $4500 in its current state?

Depends how much is salvagable.
Could probably get the whole engine, gearbox, LSD,
Maybe exhaust, some interior, front kit, rear kit etc etc.
Probably worth it i guess.
Could make a nice little project

at the end of the day its only a series 1 though... you can pick up a series 1 complete and driveable for $9-10k these days cant you?

If you were buying it to do a conversion to a forte or something, it's going to end up owing a lot more then buying this car and a car to transplant everything into...

I suppose there are plenty of guys that already have an au that might consider buying it as a whole upgrade package.....

says in the ad its got a brand new manual trans though......when you look at it that way, engine, new trans, XR suspension, IRS, LSD and XR front, it'd definatley be worth the money.

be a good way to upgrade an otherwise stock AU

You can get similar wrecked series 3 au XR8s from the salvage auctions for $5000 Up,so its not really good value.
I want to get a series 3 and convert it all into my SR wagon

Asking a bit too much but would probably be good to retro fit into an older car.

this now has 3 threads about it :

also think about it like this donor shell worth? *1k from wreckers*

then the price of 4500 i bet it can be knocked down 500-1k easily

engine gbox diff front end rear end bars
interior?
what you think that comes up to then ims if they aint bad?

a cas worth what someones willing to pay if i had/owned a AU i'd def be interested in the parts even if he thrashed it into a tree ;)

It went up for sale not long after the accident. I think he's asking a bit to much.

The car had over 200,000kms on it before he inflicted the "pannel damage". How much would you really want to pay for the drivetrain?

windsors last forever if looked after, and he says the trans is new.......

with everything you get with it, i still reckon its a fair deal......maybe try knocking it down 500 or so but theres a lot of stuff in it
the front alone would be worth 1200 or so

He may have been payed out and bought the wreck back.

On another note wasn't there a thread (with pics) a while ago with a blue AU XR8 that hit a pole after flooring it around the corner?

For $4500 you can buy a fully operational, uncrashed, normal etc AU V8 Forte. Misses out on 10kW and 17Nm.

Yeah, main things to salvage out of this critter would be the 5 speed (if indeed, it is "new"...), tickford dash inset and seats (if not worn out), rims (if not buggered in the prang), and bumpers/lights (ditto). Might be worth 4K for somebody XRifying a Forte auto I suppose, just to get all the parts in one package.

I think you could make a profit if you resold all the undamaged parts. AU series 1 XR8s must be less common than series 2 and 3? I never see as much of them here in perth.

Says who?

IMO $4500 is very high. I'd say the owner is trying to recoup their loss from the crash. Good luck with the sale, some sucker may pay it.
I'd rather go to auctions and buy cheaper!
