Lol. Today I saw BA GT occupying two parking bays - i suppose thats another way of avoiding scratches (at least from other cars). I can't guarantee how other people would react when they can't find any place to park.

Have seen this a few times ... and have seen an annoyed driver not being able to get a parking spot go up to said car and key it.

So it doesn't always work.

I have seen that happen a couple of times!

No offence but I think that parking like that is a pretty selfish thing to do....much as I hate people damaging my cars (which they do) I would never park in that manner.....

I totally agree. I usually only do this when the car park isn't packed full.

Some people are too ******* paranoid! I park my car wherever.

If it gets scratched it gets scratched and there ain't nothing you can do about it. I wouldn't like it but hey that's life!

That's true. Parking with a 16:1 manual steering box, 8" rims, 3.5 degrees of castor and a reduced turning circle can also make it a bit of a handful in a tight car park.

I usually park at the far end of the car park where there are no other cars and then take up two spots. That way I avoid annoying anybody and stop some clown from parking too close.

I hate it when i park as far as possible from a shop, in a nearly empty carpark, and some idiot parks next to me. I just cannot understand it

lol partners old mans car takes up four, yes four spaces. Not because he doesnt want to get it scratched, but because it being 19foot long, it takes up 2 in length and the doors are almost the length of my height it takes up 2 parks just to get the doors open enough to get out of it.

Dad used to park further away or take up 2 parks when he had the xr6, but novelty wore off after a few months, same with his xr8, used to at the start now he doesnt.

Car park scratches/dents are always goin to happen. No matter how far away you park, someone will decide to park next to you, no matter how many spaces you take up they will still find a way to make their door contact yours.

I just wish everyone had respect for other people's property and made the effort to be careful when they open their doors, or make an effort to help their kids out of the car, or even steer the shopping trolley's properly!

My solution for not getting door scratches is simple. I park it pretty close to the shop (entries). But I park it next to the newest, shiniest most expensive BMW or Mercedes Benz or Porsche that I can find. And I always put my car as close to the pillar or wall as I can.

Usually the clearance between my side mirrors and the pillars is about 2-4 inches. hehe. Plenty of space on the other side then for opening doors.

LOL, I do the same. I park well away from all other cars, and when I go back to leave some mongrel has parked next to me, but so close it's a squeeze to get into my own car! Can't understand this logic......

Or don't take your car shopping... less chance of getting scratchers parked @ home, take the company car instead :

Agree with you there , snorty , even if I park next to a POS , I don't "bang into it" and I just hope they show the same respect for my car

If you have a classic or a mint showroom quality vehicle, you should go out and get an EA for those busy shopping days when every a.. hole emerges in their trashy white VN.

You can get one for about the cost of a wheel these days :

Another handy hint is to park on the passenger's side of a van with a slidey door... no way you're getting dented by that.

I do that as well. I never park next to old bomb cars whose owners couldn't care less about what their doors hit.

That the worst thing to do, your better of parking further from the shop as it less cars, less crowd , less trolley. People who care about there cars park here! You park close to the shop entry, your cars screwed when you get back!

Years ago I angle parked outside Myer at Tweed Heads ... yes I did say years ago ... in my one week old Falcon. Before I got out, this jerk parked alongside in his BMW and flung open his door putting a dent in mine. Needless to say I had words to say and asked for recompense. His flippant reply was that "these things happen". I replied by kicking a dent into his door and duplicating his statement ... "these things happen", followed by a dent in his chin.

Love your work Pedro!

I had a similar thing happen many years ago with an idiot who was driving a new Landcruiser. I kicked in both drivers side doors (was wearing steel capped boots at the time) and left him to it...but I didn't punch him though!!
