Nice pics!

Can someone explain the flames though...?

I figure tyre blows, then rims sparks and ignites.....

^^ Where there's smoke there's fire!

Rubber so hot it liquifies, exhaust so hot it glows, bitumen scorching hot, rear brakes near white hot (on the ones that don't disconnect them)........ the rubber burns. It's also pretty common for diff's to leak due to this excessive torture - I would imagine that boiling hot diff oil might light up too.

I really wonder why people do this to their cars. Not to mention the remains of the tyre now glued to the rides.

Hey but it's not my money

Yeah I spose he's thinking how cool he is now rather than how much time and money it's going to take to get rid of that :

But it was fun at the time

Yeah these cars probably rarely come out to play, so why not.

I dont see the point of building something like this up and not using it.

If they were smart (surely there must be something like it) you would put a clear plastic (?) coating around the rear arch etc, so you could then juts peel it off and hey presto all the crap is gone.

Many do that or cover the qtr's in tape. Works ok until the belts start whipping the car!

Does anyone notice that there are so many more hold#ns pictured above than fords?
I have looked at plenty of the official street machine vids of these events and the ratio of hold#ns vs fords is very stacked towards the gm side of things. thats also the feeling i get anytime i pick up a street machine magazine.

does anyone else think the same? agree or dis-agree?

I was at the Burnouts on Sunday and the pics are pretty representative, there were heaps more Holdens than Fords competing. I'd say they outnumbered the fords 3 -1. The other thing that I found interesting was that the Holdens seemed to represent a much wider range, they had pretty much everything from the old HQ's right through to VT's represented, with plenty of VK, VL, VR etc etc. In the blue oval camp I only saw 1 XE and the rest were all XY or XW. (oh and the AU Taxi, that was cool!)

Its probably got a bit to do with Holden owners being bogans, Summernats is like their mating call....jk :

Seriously though, perhaps Holdens dominance of the V8SC's might have something to do with it.

Obviously Ford has been kicking butt for a while now, so in a few years perhaps you will see more Falcons about. I assume these beasts take a little while to build up.

Although bring on the Camaro's and Vettes, cant get enough of them

The aqua torry does all the burnout comps in WA. It's built specifically for skids. Tearing the flares off is all in a days work for him....

I used to run a stainless guard which was made to protect the inner guard and the rear qtr panel, was marvelous. Some tape up their rear qtr's, some, I guess think, DILLIGAF. Used to see some damage, but never done any for myself.

Cheers,
Mike

Its been explained before, but basically the single biggest reason for the larger Holden following is to do with the removal of the V8 from Ford's line up a couple of decades ago. All those kids who grew up with Holden V8s have now got the cash to go nuts with their Holden's.

Personally, I couldn't give a toss what sort of car it is at shows like this, when you look at the quality of these cars, its impossible for me not to appreciate and respect them.

I'm a Ford man til the day I die, but I was at the Summernats to cheer on the orange Torana "Rhynos" as my family's business sponsored him the tyres to melt in the burnout comp.

Also to the person who said how can they trash these cars, when you see someone run a muck like that in their immaculate car, the crowd goes nuts because they know the owner is trying the hardest to entertain us all. If these guys didn't pop em, it wouldn't be anywhere near as good. All IMO.
