Hey all my xr6 s1 vct seems to be loosing oil....done oil change last weekend...now it seems to be leaking from somewhere....maybe burning...cant see any on the ground....a mate told me to use penrite hpr30...is this wrong for my car or wat??? should i change the oil

also there is a lag in it as well....would this be map sensor or 02 sensor..these seem pretty expensive to just to swap hoping it may fix problem....car has just hit 100,000 kms....

how do i know when to change the oil in my manual trans....wat symptoms should i get to change....

also ...while driving along there seems to be a slight constant tapping sound...would this be hydrolyc lifters....how much are these and hw hard are they to fix....

I reckon the oil you've used is too thick. Perhaps that's why your lifters are ticking, oil is having trouble getting through. HPR 30 is 20W60, too thick IMO.

HPR10 (10W50) is what I'd use for that car. I use HPR Gas 10 for both my AUs as they are dual fuel.

Here's a link to Penrite's recommendations for AUs. I checked it and they recommend HPR 10.

Not sure about the oil burning though. I suppose you checked the filter to see if it's secure and the sump bolt? If you've done that and you've no leaks, you may have dropped some on the headers etc when filling last week and now have the burning smell. Just a suggestion.

If that's not the case, I'm not sure what to recommend, sorry. It's just strange that all this happened after the oil change though!

Definately change the oil though.

All the best with it.
