Hey again people,
just asking a question for my cousin, who has an AU1 XR6, and he wants to either turbo or supercharge it. He wants to know how much roughly he be looking at to get either installed, and some of the pros and cons of the two Cheers, Simon. |

10k sound ripped off. More like 6k for turbo job. Supercharge about the same.

How well do you want it done? How much power do you want?
Actually slapping on a turbo.. about $5-6K for 200rwkw.. maybe. Getting it running right, not blowing transmissions and generally being a good, reliable, safe and capable car... with real power to make the hassle worth it.. budget closer to $15K and don't expect change.

not worth it mate, as suggested, trade the AU in.. might get 8 grand tops for it and buy a BA xr6 turbo... they can be had for 20 grand... You will end up spending so much on the Au its not funny.

Too much ***ing around, if he's deadset keen on AU's maybe, if not get a BA XR6T. It was built to be a turbo, you're much less likely to have trouble getting things running right etc. It might even end up cheaper too, even if you get one with leather etc.

If its worth it or not is up to each individual, some of us simply do not want a BA or BF. On actual overall cost then buying a factory fitted turbo would win hands down... but sometimes cost is not the major factor in a decision.

Very true casper , I love my au and the main reason for that is i know how much i have spent on it up till now to have got it to where i want it! I am in the process of turboing my au falcon now and i weighed up the costs of buying a ba turbo then i factored in the upgrades to fuel pump, injectors, tune, exhaust etc.etc and it worked out more then building my au falcon motor with the same parts and almost identical power output.
So at the end of the day it's your decision and either way it isnt going to be cheap .. : e |

Casper has hit the nail on the head.A ba xr6t has been done to death.A turbo AU is more exotic!! Done right will be just as good as the ba's if not better.

Prob more potential with the turbo tho. That's what I'm doing with mine. As the others have said, 10k or so prob gets you in the ballpark range to do it. If you search for parts yourself (eg ebay) you can save some bucks. Remember to factor in engineering, upgraded brakes, insurance too etc. Prob is cheaper going a BA XR6T but I figure I'm near half way into the cost of it and BA's are dime a dozen.

I think upgrading brakes is a must. When I drove mine for the first time with a turbo slowing down was bit of a problem!

$1K? you'd be doing well to get a working 2nd hand kit for even double that. Plus you also have to alow for cost of getting it engineered
