Hi peoples,
Yesterday, I was given a helmet as a birthday present, so now I need to get it valued for insurance purposes. Any ideas where I could go for such a valuation (and authentication) ? It is "probably" a 1989/1990 (mobil sierra era) helmet. I am also looking for photos of him wearing this design. I have taken pictures and sent them to the peter brock foundation who are going to see if thay can place the helmet, and to arai to see if they kept records of the serial number. Cheers David. |

Well I suggest try one of those memorabilia stores that sell all the framed stuff and ask them how much they would sell it for, and base it around that possibly.

Bock's Ford helmet? One of a kind but probably worth LESS than one of his Holden helmets. I would never pay for sports memobilia of any kind as I see no value in it.

EA2BA...Yeah, I have contacted several of them online and asked if thay can provide a valuation.
One of them replied and said sorry, but they can not provide an authentication certificate... (nothing about a valuation) XCGXL...Yes certainly rarer (as would be the volvo ones), but there is nothing on the helmet to indicate Ford or Holden so I am guestimating Ford based on the age ot the helmet. I am also not looking to sell it as it was a present. (and I don't want to anyway) Any pictures would be much appreciated. I will post a photo of it later, so you know what I am talkig about. D. |

There is a place in Parramatta that provides a Valuation (based on their web site), but they would need something to assist in the authentication, so I am still looking for any photos...

You may not find a pic of him wearing that same helmet. I'm only guessing but the signature suggests to me that is may have been a donor for a fund raiser or a gift. Nice piece though. Is the signature hand signed with a marking pen or is it a sticker? If its hand signed it may be worth $200 - $300. There is a fair amount of PB memorabilia on ebay nothing really getting a lot of money though, maybe all the good stuff has gone off the market already? Helmets, gloves, boots and in particular race suits that have actually been worn and personally signed seem to be the big value stuff.

Hi BLKPhoon... Yes I have tried that.
I have been through several thousand photos from several picture search engines (including google whish stops after 25 pages or so and you can't get to the other many pages of photos...). I have not found any that have been published on the web that show this particualr helmet clearly (or al all ?). I am asking for photos that people may have personally taken, or know of other web pages that specialise in photos such as these. Not all web pages are picked up by the search engines, and not all photos are lables "Peter Brock Helmet... etc" and this is what the search engines use. Hi paulie, the signature is not a pen or a sticker, it is actually part of the helmet design. The helmet has no "stickers" on it at all, it is all paint / embossing (?) The helmet is supposed to have been warn by him, but apart from DNA testing (even if that can be done), I have no way of verifying its authenticity. DKGandBH |

Possibly the helmet was a promotional item, maybe even just part of a dealer display back in brocks heyday to sell cars, and was never actually worn by brock in any races, it is just a thought given that you have not found any pictures as yet. The helmet looks in pristine condition, too good to have been worn many times, does the inside look perfect, drivers sweat an awful lot during a race so I would expect the inside to being signs of wear.

Not pristine inside. It has definately been warn by "someone".
I haven't been able to find and photos from the shell series in 1989/1990. Only Bathurst ones. D. |

Hi 4.9 EF Futura... I have sent emails to several of these with the replies being (from thoes that have replied), "sorry we don't offer these services, we just sell the stuff"
The best lead so far is from a place in Parramatta that offer memorobilia valuations. I would however also like some sort of authentication, and a photo is the first place I can think of. I am also still waiting for the Peter Brock Foundation representative (his brother), who said that they will look in to it for me, and from MOTOR/WHEELS who will look through their photo archive for me. G'Day,
What about trying a Team Red forum? Although it's in a sierra, there are some seriously passionate people in them who could probably tell you when it was made? Cheers,

Also have a look inside the helmet for Year of manufacture - see if it is somebody doing a replica or if it from the same era as the ones that were on Brocks head. There will be either a month and year stamping on the buckle eg 04/06 or a Snell foundation sticker just inside the lining. The snell sticker will have a SA followed by 2 numbers that signify which years standard that it was made to eg 85, 90, 95 etc This way at least you will be able to date the helmets manufacture.

The leather chin strap appears to have the date 04/89 embossed into it.
