Default Rego Fees

Just want to have an idea on what members think about being grouped with large 4X4's in the same fee for rego fees. Not wanting to start a riot with Terri owners but to pay the same as a XR6 @ approx1700kgs and the large troop carriers as a hummer(2500kgs+) is crazy.
Should there be a seperating class as Larger car. 4X4s, and extra large ie hummers to be fairer to all

Value everyone input

cheers

I think our system here in vic is fair.

Happy with the deal i get anyway!

Rego fee - $168.60
TAC Charge - $188.00
Insurance Duty - $18.80

Total $375.40

Rural rego on a 2 seater ute. nice and cheap!!!

Down here i'm pretty sure rego fees are the same for anything under a 4500kg GVM.

The only thing that vaires as far as i know is the cost goes up depending on the amount of passengers the vehicle is licensed to seat to cover the TAC insurance for additional people.

Could always buy a farm and get registered as a primary producer! My father in law gets the rego on his F-350 for under $200 per year, and all his trailers are free! With out truck rego at work, because we're primary producers, instead of a B-Double registered prime mover costing us $10,000 we pay about $1600.

Almost. The break down and everything you showed is correct, however the TAC component can change, my XR6 Turbo was over $560 a year for a SE Melb suburb. It was in the dearest bracket. Mort rural areas are cheaper because there's not as many prangs driving the price up (The TAC is decided by number and severity of crashes according to that suburb).

Ha, try NSW

$600 for a greenslip, $30 for a pink slip (if car older than three years), and then the RTA costs, like $350-400 (dependant on weight), annually.!!!!

From where else do you propose they extract the revenue? Where should they get the money for TAC payouts and all the other things the rego fees go towards?

I just Re-Registered my 1996 EL Futura.
$37* for Rego
$33* for greenslip
$30 for pink slip

$730+ all up

BTW its under my mums name otherwise it would be over $600 just for the greenslip.

In NSW you guys have to buy your own Transport Accident Insurance this is the green slip yes?
In Vic we pay it with our reg fees to Vic Roads. My daughter or Mum pay the same rate as me its fixed.

That correct. It's now base on if you had any accidents, fines & few other thing as to how much your going to get screwed.

I don't care because the XC is actually my mum's car and she gets pensioner rego. Next year I can put it on club rego if I can find a club that will have me.

To be fair I think the registration component should be dependent on the type of vehicle, as cupic suggests. Why should a Fiesta owner have to pay the same as a Landcruiser owner? Years ago it used to be based on the vehicle mass here in Vic, but they changed it.

But then the TAC Third Party insurance component should be included in the fuel cost, or perhaps as a once off fee per annum for each driver, not as a set fee for each car. Why should a second or third car thats driven occasionally, such as a hobby car, cost just as much for insurance as the car thats driven 30,000 or 40,000km per year where the probability of an accident is much higher? The system is obviously set up for the common motorist who has only one car, not for the motoring enthusiast.

Well I thought our rego was to build better roads. Car "a" uses the same roads as Car "b", so why should one pay more then another?

I think huge 4x4's rego's should be more in heavy metropolitan areas but thats about it.

Car must be at least 30 years old
You have to be a member of a club.
Only allowed to drive on club runs and you have to enter in in a log book.
Otherwise allowed to drive within 8km of home or for repairs

How the heck does your mum get a greenslip for $33? That's a typo right? Or do you mean $330-something?

Some years ago I had a car on club rego here in Vic. The problem was that I could only drive it on club events and preparation for club events. Could'nt take it for a Sunday morning spin around Mt Macedon or the Dandenongs. Ended up getting full registration for it despite the much higher cost.

Thats a good point, but while its in full rego i drive it too much as it is, its not meant to be the daily and 8km around my house is fine as im close to everything.

Green slip in NSW only costs me around $240 for an ED Falcon. I was advised by the RTA not to pay more than that. Rest of the rego is free (excpet for inspection cert) since I put the car in my mother's name and she gets a concession.

If they aren't already then I'd agree with rating 4 x 4's higher - by weight sounds good.

I dont want to argue for anyone else to have to pay more. Rego is cheap here in Vic. Even my Ford D1211 13 ton gross beaver tail truck only cost about $980 all up. I only do about 2k in it a year so I dont want to have to pay more.

So basically you get on here and tell us you're scamming your rego cheao through your mum but someone who's prepared to pay their rego legit should pay extra because the GVM of their vehicle is higher??

GET A GRIP!!!

If this was bought in, i'll recommend 4wd owners go register their vehicles in their mum/grandmas name, or why not just register it to a friends house in vic?

Sick of people taking advantage of the system and being deceptive. Its the reason we all pay through the nose for insurance for 1 thing. Is it insured in your mums name too? FFS
