G'day all,
I've got an idling problem when the car is in drive. In park or neutral the revs are fine until I go into drive then they seem to drop a little too much. The car does'nt stall but causes a deep vibrating in the car. When I put my foot on the brake and accelerate a little this disappears. I recently cleaned out the I.A.C. but this has not solved the problem. Can anyone tell me what is causing this and a possible cure for it. Thanks. (my car is an au1 forte!) |

I'm not sure what causes this but mine and a few others did it too, once an aftermarket exhaust was slapped on.
I'm not 100% happy with the results but for now I've just increased the base idle a bit. |

mine was doing this as well. just had the idle air control valve replaced. problem solved.. auto electrician says it id pretty common with AU's.
part was $131 + gst + labour. so it might not want to be the first thing you replace, ie start with cheap and easy to fix -tim |

Mine was doing something similar, replaced the leads, plugs and also had the base idle reset at Denmac Ford in Brisbane.

I just put a new O2 sensor in this afternoon and reset the ECU and it seems to have fixed our erratic idle and surging problem .

path i would be taking is, clean the throttle body, change plugs, leads, air filter, and o2 sensor. if you do all this (although it's expensive) your problem will go and there shouldnt be any need to adjust base idle. plus you can be happy in knowing that your car will be happy and have better economy and power.
