Default Taxi Chrysler 300c Turbo Diesel

Interesting car in my Street today, it caught my eye and I had a 5 min chat to the driver.
It’s the 1st diesel turbo 300c on the Road in Australia he tells me, the investment was just over $70,000 and he was saying the customers that have been is this Taxi are repeat customers time and time again this was his reply to me when I asked about the running costs tyres etc: flat out with work.
Pics taken on my Phone.

Awesome! It needs some nice 20s though.

Wonder what the dyno readout would be with that?

I think he said it was Mercedes Engine not a lot of power but look at the torque 510nm when you compare to the petrol 5.7-litre Hemi V8, which boasts 525Nm.
Don't know if its true the petrol models are made in South Africa.

Engine:
3.0-litre, 24-valve, DOHC, common-rail, direct injection, intercooled turbocharged V6; 160kW@3800rpm, 510Nm@1600-2800rpm

Transmission: 5-speed automatic, rear-wheel-drive

Performance:
0-100km/h 8.6 sec

Fuel economy:
8.2L/100km claimed; on test 9.7L/100km; 71-litre tank.

Yeah was mainly interested with the torque considering it was diesel. Makes less power than my car but makes 200nm more torque!

Not fast either but I bet that light on the top is always out :

I wonder if he chose this car as a business decision resale value maybe or repeat customers as you mentioned , Or more simply does he just like sitting behind the wheel of the 300c all day. Looks awesome.

So now we know what Russ's car can be! That is a very brave cabbie, and it looks great, apart from the baby poo yellow colour, but you get that in Bracktoria.

You could see why it made good sense with the diesel option - reasonably economical and not likely to be bothered by high km use. DC must have come to the party with the Vic Taxi Yellow as it certainly isn't in the standard colour chart although there is a similar colour in the States.

All of the AU RHD 300's are made in the old Steyr factory in Austria although I'm not sure where the oiler engines are built.

BTW - the badge comes with one of the aftermarket grilles and is designed to mimic the Bentley grille.

Cheers
Russ

AFAIK those Diesel engines are made in the USA and are fitted to Jeeps, Mercs and Chryslers.

russellw Im am seriously considering a 300c (HEMI) but am alittle concerned on the build quality of the Austrian built cars...How do you rate the 300C build quality against a BA?

LMAO.

Can't believe he actually posted that.

VeloXR6, FYI, Bentley range is here:

Bentley UK Range

You won't find a 30,000 quid 300C derivative in it...

[Edit] FFS, it would be pretty hilarious if DC rebadged their "budget" line with the flagship of their competitor, VW!!!

I've seen this 300c a few times around the city and certainly is something different. Speaking of unusual taxis, has anyone seen a Teritory? I've seen it in the CBD a couple of times.

They have not been without issues. Most of the sunroof equipped ones have had rattles, there have been issues with SRT brakes and pads, a lot of the transmissions have had an o-ring leaking problem and there have been instances of cars that have just stopped but this turned out to be a software issue that was easily fixed.

After 25,000 km it probably has more noises than an equivalent BA although this is probably more due to the stiff SRT suspension as I've not heard it in other 300's.

The quality of trim is not up to that of the BA and it is easily marked although also easily repaired. Parts prices are horrible for some items and most of them have to come out of Singapore.

Cheers
Russ

While were comparing quality, A Caprice is in the same price bracket as the Chrysler.
Holden are not without quality problems either, Rod just purchased x2 Holden Caprice one has to have the front and rear bar changed paint colour matching is worse than anything i seen on a Falcon, upgraded to 20'' wheels one alloy has big paint runs also missing boot lip spoiler on delivery.
The other Caprice was sitting at Holden for 3 days they couldn't work out why the battery was going flat, they got sick of waiting for the dealer to fix the problem so they sent in there own auto elec he picked up the problem in 10 mins.
