Unhappy Internal Leak In Steering Rack

So i went down to pedders today to get a 28point system check and when they finished the guy said its in pretty good condition. However he found a couple of problems, the main one is that there is apparently an internal leak on the left side of the steering rack & will need a new one. The guy said he recommended i get it fixed asap as its a big safety issue and could cause a fire because of something to do with oil leaking inside the rack and it being next to the exhaust or something.
I'm gonna be getting her lowered soon but as she will need new shocks i gotta get it all done at once so i leave the major things that need doing first and leave the lowering till later. Have many of you guys had your work done by pedders and if so were u happy with their prices/results? Personally i think they are a bit $$ but they are a big company so yer...

Mums rack has been leaking internally (AU1 forte) for about 50 000k's. It doesnt lose fluid at all though (a drip now and then) and I have been told unless it is losing fluid, not to worry about it. On another point though, as you are lowering the car, it may be worth getting done. They are like $240 for a reco one off E-bay. A quick question of my own though, is it 240 per side, or is that the whole rack?

don`t know about ebay but from ford a reco one when i priced it last late last year was 200$ (from bayfords melbourne) so 240 sounds about right, i think thats a change over price.

Make sure you get another price for job. Ford dealers and co's like pedders will take advantage of anyone thats seems not informed. IMO do your homework before handing over the bucks!!
